Based on the works of the prominent classical scholars of the Qur’an (al-Qāri’, Ibn Sallām, Dāmaġāni, Ibn al-ʻImād, Ibn al-Ğawzī), the contextual meanings of the word fasād in the Qur’an are given, together with the Tafsir analysis and by comparing it to some of the leading classical and contemporary commentaries of the Qur’an. Consequently, based on the Qur’anic use, the word fasād is semantically investigated and offered a possible classification of the term into its following forms: 1. fasād in faith (al-fasād al-ʻaqā’idī); 2. political fasād (al-fasād al-siyāsī); 3. environmental fasād (al-fasād al-bīʻī); 4. fasād in economy (al-fasād al-iqtisādī); 5. fasād in ethics (al-fasād al-aẖlāqī); 6. fasād in security (al-fasād al-amnī) i 7. social fasād (al-fasād al-iğtimāʻī).
Almir Fatić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 7 21 The importance of pausal and initial forms in Tafsir science https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/603
The focus of this paper is an analysis of the importance of pausal and initial forms in the Tafsir science, on the example of the verses from the sura Āli ‘Imrān. It discusses the basic concepts of Tafsir and Ta’wīl, and contextu-alizes pausal and initial forms as places of change in the understanding of the Qur’anic text. The issues of diversity of Qirāʼat versions are also discussed, which open up the possibility of a better understanding and interpretation of the verse, that ultimately further reveals the immeasurable richness of the Qur’anic semantics.
Mensur Malkić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 23 32 Jazariyyah manuscripts in Gazi Husrev-bey’s Library of Sarajevo https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/604
This paper focuses on the widely known Tajweed poem entitled al-Muqad-dima fīmā ̒ alā qāriʼ al-Qurʼan an yaʻlamah (Ğazariyya) by Muḥammad Shamsuddin b. al-Jazari. Some of the particles change their semantic field by changing the syntactic environment, which can be a problem in understanding the Arabic text.
The ḥattā particle builds different syntactic contexts in which it performs multiple functions, resulting in a multiplicity of its semantics. This paper seeks to present it in all its functions in order to draw attention to the condi-tions under which a particular function is realized, as well as to the meanings it attains in certain syntactic frameworks.
By looking at the traditional and contemporary linguistic literature, we want to show that the ḥattā particle can function as a conjunction, proposition, beginning particle, and conjunctive particle. Its various functions are realized in certain syntactic environments in which its task is to connect certain parts of a sentence, or to introduce one independent content and to achieve a certain meaning.
Amira Trnka-Uzunović Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 47 61 Library of Mehmed-pasha Kukavica in Travnik https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/606
Mehmed-pasha Kukavica is one of the most prominent donors in Bosnia.
He lived in the first half of the eighteenth century and during the short time as a vizier in Bosnia, he built around 80 religious-educational, and other buil-dings in eight cities of Bosnia. A report from the County Commission in Bijeljina to the Provincial Waqf Directorate in Sarajevo on February 26, 1907, related to the endowment business, state s nine endowments, or mosques in Bijeljina county: Vedjihi-Pasha Mosque, Atik Mosque, Krpić Mosque, Salihbegović Mosque, Jedid Mosque, other Atik Mosque, Atmačić Mosque, Turski Janjari Mosque and Koraj Mosque. In the report, the column entitled “place” lists the names of five Bijeljina mahalas (Bijeljina, Janja, Atmačić, Turski Janjari and Koraj). Unfortunately, no endowment charter on the founding of any of these, to our knowledge, has been preserved to this day.
A total of 20 endowment charters were retained and subsequently added to the larger charters mentioned above. The three endowment charters date from the 19th century, while the rest date from the 20th century. It is inte-resting that the founders of 9 endowments are women, while the others are established by men.
Endowment charters that we worked on treat the most significant charac-teristics: founder, date of endowment, certification, subject of endowment, conditions of endowment, persons in charge, witnesses, physical charac-teristics of charter, specimens in various forms and sources in which the endowments were publicized.
Hamza Lavić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 93 108 ‘Abdullāh Bosnawī: One letter and a note https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/609
In this paper the author in the context of historical circumstances of the Ottoman Empire in the first half of the 17th century, and particularly in light of biography of ‘Abdullāh Bosnawī (d. 1054/1646) examined two hitherto unpublished short texts: one personal letter dispatched to Koca Mūsā-pasha (d. 1057/1647) and a short note relevant to Bosnawī’s second journey towards Mecca via Cairo. The author based on textual evidence unequivocally iden-tified both agents of the correspondence, shedding new light of the life and character of vizier Mūsā-pasha, his spiritual aspirations and close ties with Bosnawī. On the basis of the letter which is the subject-matter of this paper, as well as his waqfnama, it is possible to conclude that vizier Mūsā-pasha exposed clear Sufi leanings with Akbari coloring which is attested by the vocabulary that Bosnawī used in addressing him in his letter.
The Ottoman text of both the letter and the note is given with a Bosnian translation and befitting philological explanatory notes necessary for the proper understanding of those texts in their relevant historical context. Both texts testify that Bosnawī and Mūsā-pasha, equally of Bosnian extraction in the wide geographical scope of the Empire and while pursuing divergent careers with the Empire maintained close relations and correspondence.
Regardless of their brevity, both texts are primary sources that contain valu-able details about Bosnawī’s and Mūsā’s life and as such clearly deserve our attention and appropriate scientific treatment.
Ahmed Zildžić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 109 122 On the appointment of hafiz Sulejman-ef. Šarac to the position of reisu-l-ulema of Bosnia and Herzegovina https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/610
The enactment of the Statute for the autonomous administration of Isla-mic religious, endowment and related affairs in 1909 ended the long-standing struggle of Bosnian Muslims for the independent formation of their own reli-gious and educational life. The sanctioning of the Statute by the Austro-Hun-garian Emperor Francis Joseph meant, among other things, organizing and holding elections in all organs of the Islamic Community. Bearing in mind that the Statute brought with it special provisions and the formation of a speci-ally established body for the appointment of the reisu-l-ulema, the Ministerial Election Curia, we deal with the issue of the election of the first reisu-l-ulema in Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the established provisions of the Statute. The elections were followed with special attention in the press at that time. In this paper we tried to elaborate the texts and inscriptions of the then papers, which often promoted certain candidates on their pages. Also, the fact is that the first reisu-l-ulema elected according to the Statute, hafiz Sulejman-ef. Šarac, has not been the subject of previous research, and we believe that hafiz Šarac with his education, work, merit, and service, earns the attention of a special monograph. In the introductory part of the paper, we briefly referred to the first reactions of the high functionaries of the Islamic Community after the adoption of the Statute, which primarily refers to the reaction of the then-retired reisu-l-ulema Mehmed Teufik-ef. Azabagić. In the second part of the paper, i.e. its major part, attention is paid to the selection and appointment of the candidate for reisu-l-ulema and his appointment by the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Francis Joseph I.
Meho Manjgo Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 123 136 Following a name of Blagaj zawiya in the sijjil from Mostar from 1867: Who is Alishah Sultan? https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/611
In Hivzija Hasandedić’s article Some New Data Concerning the Past of the Tekke in Blagaj, Near Mostar, which was published in 1988, several new very important information about the tekke were revealed. This paper conta-ins, among other things, information on the meeting held in Mostar, at which several decisions regarding the tekke were made. The name of the tekke was also mentioned on that occasion, Sari Saltuk’s zawiya. The relationship of Sari Saltuk, a sheikh and a warrior of the 13th century, is well-known because his turbe is next to the tekke, but this is one of the few examples in which his name is mentioned in an official document, which is the name of the tekke.
The sources used by the author were documents dating from the second half of the nineteenth century, and the document stating the name of the tekke was the sijjil of the Mostar qadi from 1867. In Hasandedić's work, however, only the partial name of the tekke was given, because the sijjil, along with the name of Sari Saltuk, mentions another name, Alishah Sultan. There is no information on the tekke literature about a person of that name that could be associated with the tekke itself, and this name that was mentioned in the sijjil would be the very first mentioning of that name. In this paper, the author will attempt to determine, on the basis of available books and archival documents, the identity of this person, who was until now completely unknown in the context of the Blagaj tekke.
Alija Dilberović Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 137 158 Incunabula from Ibrahim Muteferrika's Printing Press Kept in Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Library https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/612
The appearance of the first books printed in Arabic script as well as the historical course of printing development in the Islamic world was very slow. Early editions of rare copies obtained by moving letters with illegible Arabic letters in the 16th and 17th centuries were a lone occurrence until the establishment of Ibrahim Muteferrika’s official printing press in Istanbul.
Ibrahim Muteferrika, being in the midst of socio-political movements, spi-ritual-religious and socio-economic changes of the Ottoman Empire in the early 18th century, was very careful both in starting his printing press and in selecting the literature he printed. We will further talk about works that he had published and which have been referred to in the literature as Turkish incu-nabula, and in particular to those located in the Gazi Husrev-bey’s Library.
Also, emphasis was placed on owners’ notes created at a time when owning a book meant having something of value and being privileged. Therefore, a digitisation project was initiated by the German Arabist Sabine Schmidtke, professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton: ‘The Zaydi Manuscript Tradition: A Digital Portal’. A number of European and American collections of Yemeni manuscripts will be made freely available on the internet. It concerns relatively small but important collections of Yemeni manuscripts, mostly collected in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by scholars, dip-lomats and travellers. Leiden University Libraries (UBL) is one of the participating libraries. The collection of circa 150 Yemeni manuscripts is in the process of being digitized, and this work was preceded by a physical survey and conservation pro-ject. A previous assessment of Leiden’s collection of manuscripts in Arabic script had pointed out that Yemeni books have characteristics that help to distinguish them from other traditions of the Middle East. In addition, the manuscripts from Yemen are in particular dire condition. How would interventive conservation serve the project and safeguard this specific Yemeni binding tradition at the same time? How can historic repairs be integrated in conservation treatments?
Though the Yemeni manuscripts are the focus in this talk, the paper reflects on the effect of digitisation on the use and value of the physical manuscripts, and the com-plexity of conservation decision-making in general. As the texts become accessible 24/7, the originals become all the more important for critical material evidence. The manuscript production in Yemen, like in many other areas, is characterised by sever-al regional-specific materials and techniques. Conservation dilemmas also concern the native repairs. The local interventions provide information on what materials and knowledge on the craft of bookbinding was available, how aesthetics mattered, and they underline the importance and value of the artefacts themselves. The impact of the materiality will be illustrated using examples from the Leiden collection ranging from the 14th to early 20th century.
Karin Scheper Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 323 329 Parchment, pigments and perforations: developing a treatment methodology for an 8th century Qur'an manuscript at the Chester Beatty https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/621
The pressing need to conserve an early eighth-century Qur’an manuscript at the Chester Beatty in Dublin has served as the catalyst for significant investigation of both early Islamic manuscript materials, and the most suitable contemporary conser-vation techniques for this manuscript.
CBL Is 1404 has suffered extensive water damage and subsequent corrosion of the iron containing ink it was written with. Losses and tears have then been repaired using traditional adhesives with toned Japanese paper.
Kristine Rose-Beers Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 331 352 Trajnost islamskog naslijeđa - Rukopisi Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/622
Mustafa Jahić, Gazi Husrev-begova biblio-teka u Sarajevu, Sarajevo 2019, 390 str.
Lejla Gazić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 355 357 Iz rukopisnog blaga Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/623
Haso Popara, Gazi Husrev-begova biblioteka, Sarajevo, 2019, 364 str.
Osman Lavić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 358 359 Katalog arapskih, perzijskih, turskih, i bosanskih rukopisa iz zbirke Bošnjačkog instituta, svezak III https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/624
Obradio Mustafa Jahić, Bošnjački institut – Fondacija Adila Zulfikar-pašića, Sarajevo, 2018, 888 + 32 strane priloga bez paginacije
Ismet Bušatlić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 360 362 Muhaddise – učenjakinje u islamu https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/625
Mohammad Akram Nadwi, prijevod s engleskog Naida Hota-Muminović i Nermina Baljević), Sarajevo : Centar za napredne studije, 2018, 295 str.
Zehra Alispahić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 363 365 Poetika otpora u djelu Mahmuda Derviša https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/626
Mirza Sarajkić, Univerzitet u Sarajevu – Orijentalni institut, Posebna izdanja LVI, Sarajevo, 2019, 271 str.
Esad Duraković Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 366 368 Poučna kratka historija https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/627
Rašid Belgradi, Dodatak, Addendum, Zeyl, El-Kalem — Institut za islamsku tradiciju Bošnjaka, Sarajevo, 2018, 246 str.
Aladin Husić Copyright (c) 2019 Gazi Husrev bey's library 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 26 40 369 373 Radost hronika https://www.anali-ghb.com/index.php/aghb/article/view/628
Šukrullah b.
