Diplomas in calligraphy of calligrapher Islamović in Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo

Abstract

Hafiz Husejin Rakim Islamović was born in Sarajevo 1839 and was renowned as one of the most skilled calligrapher of his time in our country. To make himself perfect in calligraphy he stayed several years in Istambul where he got four diplomas in various kinds of calligraphy These diplomas are now in Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo. The author of the article describes Islamović's diplomas, and after that the calligraphic decorations which Islamović worked out on the inside walls of Gazi Husrev-bey's mosque 1884./85. and which can be seen to this day.
